Recent Tree Removal Jobs Around Whangarei

What Tree Removal Costs in Whangarei
Every tree is priced on its own, because two trees of the same height can be completely different jobs. These are the things that actually move the price, so you know what we are looking at when we quote:
- Size. Height, trunk width and the spread of the crown decide how much wood there is to cut, lower and chip.
- What is around it. A tree in an open paddock can be felled in one go. The same tree over a house, a fence or a glasshouse has to be climbed and taken down in sections, which takes longer.
- Power lines and access. Lines nearby, a steep bank, or a tree at the back of a section with no vehicle access all add time.
- The condition of the tree. Dead, rotten or storm-damaged trees cannot always be climbed safely and may need a different approach.
- What happens to the wood. Keeping the rounds for firewood costs less than having everything taken away.

Do I need council permission to remove a tree in Whangarei?
Usually not. In urban areas you can generally remove a tree on your own property without permission. The exceptions are trees listed as notable in the District Plan, where no work can be done on the tree or within its drip line without a land use consent, and clearing more native vegetation than your zone allows. The Whangarei District Council trees page explains how to check. If we think a tree might be protected, we will tell you before anything is cut.
Can you remove a tree that is close to my house or power lines?
Yes. Trees close to buildings are climbed and taken down in sections, with the heavy pieces lowered on ropes so nothing drops onto the roof, the fence or the garden. Trees near overhead lines need more care: depending on how close they are, the lines company may need to be involved before the tree can be worked on. What happens to the wood and branches?
The branches and foliage go through our chipper on the day. The chips can be left for you as garden mulch or taken away. The trunk and larger limbs are cut into rounds, which most people keep for firewood once it has dried. If you do not want the wood, tell us and we will price taking it away.
Will you remove the stump as well?

Is a dead or storm-damaged tree dangerous to leave?
It can be. Dead wood becomes brittle and drops without warning, and a tree that has split, lost a big limb or started to lean after a storm has changed how its weight is carried. If you are worried about one, keep people and cars out from under it and get it looked at. Dead trees often cannot be climbed safely, so we plan those removals differently, and we will tell you honestly if we think a tree is fine to stay.
